AHIMA Return Merchandise Authorization for Bookstores and Resellers

(Revised 8/1/2025)

AHIMA accepts returns of eligible products from bookstores and authorized resellers.
In order to be eligible for return, products must meet the criteria below:

  • A return merchandise authorization (RMA) request has been approved by AHIMA before return shipment is received. See full details on RMA requests below.

  • Return shipment is received within 30 days of RMA approval.

  • Products are not damaged, and the scratch-off coating for access codes has not been either fully or partially removed. See additional details on damage

  • The returned titles are in print, and returns are still being accepted for each title.

  • The returned order is within the applicable return window, as outlined below:

    • In-Print, regular titles: one year from the purchase date on invoice

    • AMA CPT Code Books: Before June 1 of that edition’s year (ex: 2026 code books can be returned before June 1, 2026).

  • The quantity of each title being returned does not exceed 50% of the quantity of that title purchased on the invoice for which the RMA is approved.

  • An RMA packing slip is enclosed with the return.

Restocking fee: A $35 restocking fee applies to any returns of 10 or more items.

Credits for returned products are valid for two years from the date of RMA approval.

Products not eligible for return: eBooks, custom products, digital access codes, damaged print books, and print books with revealed access codes are not eligible for return under any circumstance. Returned products that are deemed ineligible or otherwise damaged (including damage during return shipping) will not be sent back to the customer, and no refund will be provided.

Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA): All returns must receive an approved Return Merchandise Authorization request before they are accepted. To request an RMA, email [email protected]. Resellers requesting an RMA will receive procedures, shipping instructions, and a printable RMA packing list to enclose with their returns. Returns must include the RMA packing list and be received by AHIMA within 30 days of RMA approval. Individual RMAs may not exceed 50% of the original order quantity in the associated invoice, but multiple RMAs may be comingled in a single return shipment.

Damage

Damage to products includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Highlighting or other marks

  • Bent, cut, or torn covers or pages

  • Other signs of use or damage such that the item cannot be considered in “new” condition (for example, a broken or worn spine).

  • Missing components included with the purchase

To avoid damage during return shipping, please ensure the books are properly packed to withstand shipping stresses. Please package securely and include additional packing materials as needed.

Return processing time is 3-4 weeks. For international orders or custom reseller agreements please contact [email protected].
